Mō te tūnga | About the role
As a Whānau Ora Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering primary healthcare that aligns with Pae Ora principles—healthy individuals, families, and environments. Your work will focus on ensuring continuity of care, promoting well-being, and supporting childhood immunisation efforts to protect tamariki from preventable diseases.
Key Responsibilities
Provide whānau-centered nursing care, ensuring continuity, accessibility, and cultural responsiveness.
Deliver childhood immunisation programs, promoting vaccine awareness and uptake among whānau.
Administer safe and effective vaccinations, adhering to Cold Chain national standards and compliance, including Cold Chain management.
Conduct health assessments and develop individualized care plans based on Māori health models.
Empower whānau through education, advocacy, and support, enabling informed health decisions.
Build strong relationships with iwi, healthcare providers, and community networks to enhance well-being.
Uphold Māori values and kaupapa, ensuring best practice in clinical care and public health.
This role requires strong communication skills, cultural competency, and a deep commitment to improving health outcomes for Māori and Pasifika whānau.
Mōu | About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
New Zealand Registered Health Professional status with a current Annual Practicing Certificate (with no conditions that may affect your ability to fulfill the role).
Minimum 3-5 years’ post-registration experience in nursing or primary healthcare.
A current full driver’s license, enabling mobility across communities.
A high level of IT and administrative literacy, ensuring accurate record-keeping and communication.
Clearance under the provisions of the Vulnerable Children’s Act (2014).
Desirable:
Authorised Vaccinator, including expertise in Childhood Immunisation.
Experience in Cold Chain management, including vaccine storage and transportation.
Knowledge of Cold Chain national standards and compliance.
Fluency in Te Reo Māori, enhancing communication and engagement with whānau.
Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring culturally responsive health practices.
