Mō te tūnga | About the role
Mana Ake is a school-based wellbeing program working with tamariki/children across all primary and intermediate school grades (years 1-8) and their whānau. It aims to equip tāmariki with the necessary skills to navigate experiences such as grief, loss, parental separation. Additionally, the program provides guidance, advice, and workshops for parents, whānau, and kaiako (teachers).
The program is structured around two distinct service delivery models:
Whole of School Approach: This involves delivering evidence-informed mental well-being promotion programs to entire classrooms or schools, community and whānau groups.
Group-Based and Individual Therapeutic Programs: This model offers evidence-informed direct support to tamariki facing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges who may also qualify for other specialized services like ICAMHS.
You would need:
Passion to support tamariki and their whānau with their mental health and wellbeing.
Local and regional knowledge of the health and social services sector
Ability to engage with the community, whānau, schoolteachers, tamariki and other relevant health and education providers.
Confidence to deliver programs in classrooms and small groups.
Ability to develop personalised lesson plans or support plans to meet the needs of tamariki, schools and whānau.
Work independently and collaboratively on assigned tasks while maintaining open communication within the Mana Ake team and wider mental health services.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Publisher, Access
Current clean full drivers’ licence
Desirable:
Previous experience working in the mental health or social services sectors.
A minimum Level 4 Mental Health and/or Wellbeing Support Worker) or a willingness to undertake and complete Level 4 training.
Relevant training and service induction is provided to successful candidates.
