Mō te tūnga | About the role

To provide high quality day care and supervision to individuals (hereafter ‘whānau member’) involved in the Day Programme.

The objective is to enhance disabled people’s quality of life and enable their community participation and maximum independence. This is achieved by creating linkages that allow disabled people’s needs to be addressed holistically, in an environment most appropriate to them. The vision of DSS is to ensure “Disabled people and their families are supported to live the lives they choose”.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To help assess each individual’s (hereafter ‘whanau member’) social / recreational / work skill, needs in conjunction with their significant others and / or Health Care Worker

  • To work with whanau members in developing and implementing activity plans which include personal goals.

  • To help regularly review, in conjunction with the whanau member and significant others, the member progress toward the stated objectives.

  • To liaise with other Poutini Waiora Kaimahi to ensure that the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of whanau members one to one work is co-ordinated and carried out appropriately.

  • To maintain a high standard of care of whanau members and perform personal care, as required, maintaining the whanau members’ dignity and privacy.

Mōu | About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification

  • High level of Information technology and administration literacy

  • Commitment to working effectively with Māori, Pacific, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to establish rapport with children and whānau

  • Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills

Desirable:

  • At least 12 months experience working in relevant field

  • Fluency in Te Reo Māori

  • Knowledge of Tikanga

  • Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi.

  • Knowledge of local Māori and mainstream communities.
